Adani Group to Invest Rs 10,700 Crore in Airport Expansion in Lucknow

The airport expansion plan was approved by the Union Environment Ministry on December 15. However, the plans submitted to the ministry did not include a deadline for the expansion. Business Standards reviewed the plans and approved them.

According to earlier reports, Adani Group will invest around Rs 10,000 crore at Ahmedabad Airport between 2023 and 2027 to triple its passenger capacity and make it a regional hub.

The plans of Lucknow International Airport Limited (LIAL), an Adani group company, state that CCSIA (Chowdhury Charan Singh International Airport) in Lucknow, with a total area of 509.41 hectares (1258.80 acres), is the most restricted area One of the airports in India.

It added that LIAL is now proposing to expand the CCSIA to 457.1 hectares.

“CCSIA currently has two passenger terminals in operation: the International Terminal (T1) and the Domestic Terminal (T2). “A new integrated terminal (T3) is under construction at Terminal T1 west," it said.

Along with T3, a new terminal (T4) and associated infrastructure, ancillary facilities and utilities will also be built to accommodate the 39 MPPAs, the plan says. According to an October presentation by Adani Group, CCSIA is currently capable of handling 4 MPPAs.

LIAL's plan is to develop a cargo complex at CCSIA with a total area of 23.14 hectares, capable of handling up to 250,000 tons of cargo per year.

In November 2020, Adani Group acquired CCSIA from Airports Authority of India (AAI).

During the construction phase, the expansion project will directly and indirectly employ about 2,000 people, and about 25,000 when it goes into production, the plan says. The "project cost" amounted to Rs 1,070 crore, he added.

Adani Group did not respond to the newspaper's request for comment on the matter.

A multi-modal transport hub will also be developed which will include metro links, multi-storey car parks, in-city check-in and self-service bag-drop facilities, and roadside facilities for passengers and visitors arriving at the airport from surrounding areas.

It noted that LIAL proposed a multi-storey car park with a capacity for 4,000 parking spaces.

"Pedestrian walkways ar planned to attach multi-level automotive parking to terminal departure and arrival areas, permitting passengers and greeters to park in multi-level automotive parking and walk right down to the pickup and drop-off kerbs," in keeping with the statement.

About 9.6 million litres per day (MLD) of water would be needed to handle thirty-nine MPPA, it said. 4.5 MLD are provided by the Uttar Pradesh government or borewells, and also the remaining five.1 MLD are sourced from the waste matter treatment plant for landscaping and flushing, it added.

During the previous couple of years, the Adani cluster has step by step magnified its presence within the aviation sector. Airports in Lucknow, Jaipur, Mangaluru, Thiruvananthapuram, Ahmedabad, and Guwahati were hired by the AAI in February 2019 through a competitive bidding method. The Adani cluster did aggressive bidding and won the rights to run all six of them for fifty years.

In October this year, it nonheritable Air Works, India’s second-oldest craft maintenance, repair, and overhaul unit, at AN enterprise valuation of Rs four hundred large integer.
